Dogsledding rides a unique Canadian experience at Ski Wentworth

Wentworth - A quintessential Canadian experience that few ever get to try, is coming to Ski Wentworth this March Break. Dogsledding rides will be offered at the ski area March 13-16 and 18-21. Professional dogsled teams will take passengers for a ride of lifetime around the beautiful cross country trails at the top of the mountain.

“Dogsledding is one of those uniquely Canadian experiences that you only see on TV or read about in the paper. But how many people have actually had the opportunity to go for a dog sled ride?” said Leslie Wilson, General Manager, Ski Wentworth. “We’re very fortunate to be able to offer this special bit of Canadiana over the March Break.”

Two dog sled teams will run the 6 km trail, with professional mushers at the helm. Rob Cooke of Shaytaan Siberian Huskies in Edmunston NB has been mushing dog sled teams for about 10 years. Cooke races in events across the country and the United States. He and his wife Louise moved to Nova Scotia from the UK seven years ago to pursue their dogsledding passion. Another professional musher, Michael Stratton, a Ski Patrol at Ski Wentworth, has been guiding dogsledding expeditions across the Canadian wilderness for over eight years.

“It’s the lure of dogsledding and working with the animals that drew me in,” said Stratton. “It’s a completely different experience than riding anything else. It’s exhilarating, yet quiet. You really have to experience it for yourself. Watching the dogs running in sequence is what I really enjoy.”

The cross country trails are at the top of the mountain, so it is required to ride the chairlift and ski down the beginner trail. Maximum two small children per sled or one adult. Cost is $35 per person.

Rides are offered every hour March 13-16 and 18-21starting at 10am. Pre-registration is required by calling Jenn at
902-548-2089 x224.
